User Reviews about Earthwise 50120 20-Inch 12 amp Electric Mulching Lawn Mower with Grass Bag
I've used this mower about four times so far and it does what I expect of a mower: it cuts the grass. I am not any type of lawn expert, and my last mower was a manual reel model, so my expectations were low. It is a big step up for me and a great price. The only downside is the cord, which is a real pain, but I can live with it. -- Great Mower for the Price
When it arrived, I was surprised at how heavy it was. Not that I have any reason to expect it to be light, I was just surprised. Assembly was quick and easy, way easier than assembling some Ikea furniture. I bought 50' and 25' long 12 gauge extension cords which work for my yard with the way my outside outlets are situated. As a side note, using my electric weed whacker with the heavy gauge cords made it seem like it was twice as powerful. As noted in other reviews the off gassing of the thing stinks, bad. I am not a fan of the new plastic smell so I probably did notice it more than others would. Also, as mentioned in other reviews, the stench kind of makes a mockery of the whole "clean air" premise on the box. Anyway, it's a lawnmower that's meant to be outside or in the garage so who really cares what it smells like. Soon enough it was all smelling like newly cut grass.
So far I've used it four times and it does what a lawnmower should do. I use the mulching plug and it works pretty well. I have a nice (horrible) mix of weeds and grass and uneven surfaces to work with in the yard and a corner lot's worth of boulevard weeds to tackle. In an effort to make it a fair fight (these are some superbad weeds) I used the whacker to cut it down to a reasonable level before hitting it with the mower. I could hear the motor slowing a little bit when it was going through the rough stuff but as long as I went slow it was fine. For the regular grass/weed mix that is the rest of my yard it went through it with no problem whatsoever. I have a lot of trees in my yard so it does take minimal planning with the cord but overall it's no big deal. Just like the instructions say, start from the area where the cord plugs in and go from there. The only time I was irritated with the cord was when I was trying to do ignore that useful bit of information. It also isn't that difficult to just shut it off wait, move it over the cord and start it back up again. For the money this is a worthwhile purchase. I tried to keep it real with a reel mower but my yard has way too many non grass things growing in it to have that work. I needed something that would take down the random tall stuff that the reel mower would just go over and not cut. This does that. The only thing I can really find fault with is what I would consider a design flaw of sorts. Since it was brand new and all I decided to flip it on it's side to clean out any grass that had collected underneath (it was slightly dampish my first go) and noticed that there is a nice crevice near the back left wheel that is a magnet for collecting clippings, and it in that crevice is a bolt. I won't be surprised if that bold becomes invisible on a lot of this model. In my mind it doesn't make sense to have a crevice in a place that will clearly just suck in grass clippings but I'm no lawn mower designer. We'll see if it holds up for the long term but so far so good. -- Pretty good for what I need it to do.
Product cuts well. The power seems a bit less than my very old electric mower. It has all the options I could ever want-grass catcher and mulching plug. Very good value and free shipping! -- electric lawnmower
After about 15 years off from mowing lawns, moved into a house and decided to take the chore on again and didn't want the hassle with gas so did some research and opted for the Earthwise corded electric. Very happy with the choice. Plenty of power for my Bermuda lawn and it's so easy to start ... no gas smell, fumes or hassle. It took me exactly three mows to get the hang of the cord and now it's no big deal. The first one, however, was a little tricky to figure out. Haven't used the mulch or side discharge, just the bag and it works great. Nice thing is it's quite a bit less noisy than a gas machine ... big plus. So far so good. I've used it about 6 times so I can't comment on durability yet, but in terms of quality, it seems like a well built machine. -- Love this Mower
